I did look into how easy it would be to replace the triggers (my main point of contention) and as far as I can tell, the answer is ‘very hard indeed’ for most people. I’m not handy with a soldering iron unfortunately. If you’re not handy with a soldering iron, I’m sure you’ll actually know someone who is but don’t realise it because I doubt you’re close enough to me to make it worth you bringing it over. All comes down to how much cash and time you want to spend, but I know how easily I rejuvenated my XB One controller for a couple of bucks for parts. In fact, you can go so far as to build build a complete joypad from scratch as all the boards, springs, screws, case parts, etc, are available. I’ve already done the thumbsticks and trigger springs, and every single part can be bought on AliExpress if you need to. When it comes to main and daughter boards, you can easily buy recon versions. If you’re handy with a soldering iron, then you’ll find replacing thumbsticks is extremely easy. Their Elite controllers are no guarantee of avoiding problems either, in fact by all accounts they are even less reliable.
Same goes for the 360 and the One pads.ĭesign aside, Microsoft has a serious problem of quality control with their controllers, with many reports of buttons / triggers sticking and sticks drifting after short periods of light careful use. I haven’t used the PS5 pad yet but the PS4 one feels much higher quality than these Series pads do, and I’ve also used it for many hours without any discomfort, in a range of games. It’s particularly noticeable in games (not Forza) which require you to pull the trigger all the way in and hold it for longish periods, like in 3rd person shooters where you use it to aim your weapon. It’s too small, the grips feel horrible and the triggers are too short and not curved enough at the end like the old ones. Lots of people have had problems adapting to the Series controller, who have had pain or cramp for the first time in their lives using a controller, me included. Sorry if you are offended, I don’t know why you would be though.
